Montparnasse "Chairman" - 1990 Special Editions
  • To showcase its superlative art of lacquering and to re-create a long-forgotten technique know only to true master craftsmen, S.T. Dupont established itself as a leader in lacquered pens by introducing the "Chairman" series in the early 1990's.

The series consisted of "Chairman Amber" and "Chairman Grenat" pens. The base models were of the Montparnasse range of fountain, rollerball and ballpoint pens in both sizes (M1 & M2).

The "Chairman Amber" used a classical barleycorn guillochè (machine work) design covered with a translucent amber Chinese lacquer coat, creating a fascinating play of light reflecting from the metalwork. The "Chairman Grenat" used a guirland pattern of guillochè, much more intricate and complex than barleycorn, covered with crimson red or ruby-coloured Chinese lacquer coat, thus creating a stunning play of light, reflection and colour.

Each pen came in a pinewood box with a "Chairman" metal plaque. The series went out of production by the end of 1994. The estimated number of pens produced is a few hundred pieces in each size.

Dupont celebrates the discovery of the American continent through a unique collection of pens with glowing bronze tones. Art Nouveau Green and Black - 1993 Limited Edition of 4.000 pieces each

Dupont has chosen to pay special homage to the architect Hector Guimard by featuring the slender arabesque - a symbol of the 1900 style - in a limited collection of two sets (Green and Black) of rollerball and fountain pens based on the Classique range, and by using gold and Chinese lacquer.

Abstractions - 2000 Limited Edition of 2000 pieces
  • Encouraged by the invention of Photography in 1840, artists began to question art's unique role of providing an exact representation of the world. They moved away from the traditional forms and colours and began to express more subjective questions, giving rise to the fascinating & sometimes shocking movement that is known as "abstract art".  S. T. Dupont laid their free interpretation of this art movement with some exceptional pieces - pure, clear forms alternate with silvery palladium and black Chinese lacquer elements to form geometric figures, giving rise to this very clean pen design, based on the Olympio large sized range.

Taj Mahal - 2002 Limited Edition of 1000 pieces and a few hundred pieces of the Special Edition
  • The Taj Mahal, an Indian architectural masterpiece of the 17th century, bears witmess to the eternal love between the Mogul emperor, Shah Jahan, and his queen, Mumtaz Mahal. On her deathbed the queen asked her beloved to build a monument whose perfect proportions would be the symbol of their enduing passion.

Dupont drew inspiration from this legendary monument to create a collection of exceptional objects which illustrated the brand's unique expertise, using the finest materials such as platinum and mother-of-pearl.

When production was started, the initial plan was to make 2000 pens. However, the plan got reduced to only 1000 Limited Edition pieces. By this time, over 1000 barrels were already made and found their way into the assembly line. so the decision was taken to finish these pens and distribute the surplus as a Special Edition only in France. The exact figure is unknown but it is estimated that about 200-300 pens were issued. They are exactly the same size and texture as the Limited Edition versions with the exception of the mother-of-pearl inlays on the barrel and the alpinite stone in the clip. The Limited Edition variants were delivered in a white faux-leather presentation case whilst the Special Edition came in the standard Dupont red box.

It was during the Renaissance that architecture became an art, through spectacular buildings such as the Duomo of Florence. It is this architecture that inspired the design of the Medici Limited Edition collection.

Dupont continued to explore the "Decorative Arts of the World" theme with a sumptuous evocation of the Italian Renaissance, in general, and Florentine Architecture at the time of Medicis in particular, with the famous Duomo. This new edition demonstrates the scope and precision of Dupont's expertise in the goldsmith's art, such as the careful lacquer inlays and the guilloché work done in the palladium-plated body of the Olympio pens.

Versailles - 2006 Limited Edition of 1686 pieces
  • S.T. Dupont pays tribute to the craftsmanship of the Chateau de Versailles, saluting the masterpieces created not only by famous painters but also by the thousands of anonymous craftsmen who worked behind the scenes. Drawing inspiration from the sun, a theme that is omnipresent at Versailles, and royal symbols like the fleur-de-lis, Dupont created the Versailles Limited Edition collection as an expression of the French art of living. White lacquer, decorated with motifs in fine gold, recall the tranquil atmosphere of the chateau's salons, its baroque-style furniture, and its richly decorated ceilings. This contrasts with the lattice motif, a decorative theme which appears throughout the range, inspired by the rectangular shapes of the Versailles French-style gardens.

French Line - 2006 Limited Edition of 1864 pieces
  • The French Art de Vivre - Art of Life - has always evoked the spirit, the refinement and luxury that is present in the French culture. In 1864, the Transatlantic General Company, also called The French Line, embodied that unique Art de Vivre, transporting the elite on its majestic ocean liners. Thanks to these magnificent steamers, French artists and master craftsmen became famous abroad.

Dupont pays tribute to those legendary liners with the creation of the French Line Limited Edition collection. The unique architecture of these ships was taken as the starting point for this collection. The brushed-steel and anthracite metal body of the pens evoke the impressive hulls. The rivets and the grids in relieve are reminiscent of the banisters. The rails and the bridges of the steamers.

Fifth Avenue, New York - 2007 Limited Edition of 1929 pieces
  • Following a sojourn on the Cote d'Azur and a journey across the Atlantic aboard the ships of the French Line, Dupont is stopping off in New York with its new Limited Edition line, New York Fifth Avenue. It pays homage to the legendary city of New York as well as to the great French interior designers who decorated the private apartments and offices of the New York elite on the Upper East Side and 5th Avenue during the Thirties and Forties. Breaking away from Art Deco, the French designers created a sophisticated world, bleeding sixteenth century Hispanic baroque, eighteenth century French classicism and the surrealism of the time.

Once again, S.T. Dupont has pushed the limits of its expertise in lacquer and gold to create a beautifully rich decorative scheme. Tracery in light chocolate lacquer is enriched by many fine guilloché arabesques. Framing and enhancing this sumptuous decor, bronze grilles finished in gold, moulded and chased by hand like a piece of wrought ironwork, are laid one by one on each pen. The globe they form is a reference to the globe held by the statue of Atlas at the foot of the Rockefeller Centre on 5th Avenue.

This would be one of the last Limited Edition series to use the Olympio range as its basis, and it is curious to notice that the barrel and section of these pens already resemble to a large extent the format of the  Néo-Classique range which would be the basis for future limited editions. Also, this was the first Limited Edition collection that would feature an uber-exclusive version of 20 pieces - the Prestige Version - done in solid white gold with 125 diamonds.

Shanghai - 2009 Limited Edition of 1088 pieces
  • A mix of very sophisticated placed lacquer “rain” on the cap and an added filigree metallic part “waves”on the bottom of the products. A subtle pale gold effect ornaments the black lacquer. Eight citrine stones are set on the clip of the pen; 8 being a lucky number in Chinese culture. The Citrine stone is a fine gem from the quartz family that has a warm yellow colour and is believed to have healing properties. The top of the pen is signed with a pale gold D circled with black lacquer, and the bottom of the pen is engraved with the Shanghai logo. A black lacquered wooden box magnifies all the products of this limited edition.

The Shanghai is the first Limited Edition range of pens to use the Néo-Classique XL format (Président). There was also an exclusive edition called the "Diamant" which had the filigree done in white solid gold on the bottom of the pen with sparkling diamonds with a white gold powder delicately decorating the green celadon lacquer. The placed lacquer “rain” is set with a mix of 8 jade and 8 alexandrite stones on the pen’s clip. Jade is a gem that was linked to the emperor in Oriental culture, and thus, absolute power. The alexandrite gem has been named after the tsar of Russia, Alexander II, and is very rare. The top of the cap is signed with a rhodium D monogram in celadon lacquer and the bottom of the pen is engraved with the happiness ideogram.

Place Vendôme - 2010 Limited Edition of 1810 pieces & Prestige Edition of 35 pieces
  • Place Vendome Paris, the eternal city of light, is enriched by its places for romantic strolls, such as the banks of the Seine or the Pont des Arts, its literary quarters. such as Saint-Germain-des Pres, its Haussmann-style grey stone buildings, and its many internationally-renowned squares.

Place Vendome, commissioned by King Louis XIV and designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, architect of the Palace of Versailles, is defined by its majestic proportions and a strong sense of symmetry, as well as by its octagonal shape, unique in the world. A large number of sophisticated sculptures embellish the sand-coloured stone of its buildings. It is also one of the most emblematic squares of French 17th century architecture. Following his victory at Austerlitz at the beginning of the 19th century, Napolean enriched the square by erecting the Vendome Column, made using the bronze from cannons left behind by the Austrians after the battle.

S.T. Dupont has engraved into each palladium cap and barrel, a quote from Napoleon: "Impossible n'est pas Francais" (Impossible is not French). Each Place Vendome pen features eight hematite stones hand placed into the cap and an individual serial number from the 1810 pieces produced worldwide.

The Prestige Edition is made of solid rose gold with over 160 diamonds encrusted on the cap and barrel, weighting at about 1,76 carats.

Samurai - 2010 Limited Edition of 888 pieces & Prestige Edition of 288 pieces

Second Empire - 2012 Limited Edition of 1872 pieces
  • The year was 1852, in the midst of the new industrialization and the liberal revolutions in Europe, Napoleon III established the Second French Empire to relive the moments of glory France had gone through decades before. The rising tension between the different social groups in this industrialised France, together with the crisis of traditional values and social structures created a scenery of political and social chaos which needed a drastic solution to reunite French society. This effort came by the hands of Napoleon III and took form in the Second French Empire which returned to the values and preferences of higher bourgeois classes.

This protection of the wealthy, in a moment in which the lower working classes were going through a rough industrialization, is perfectly reflected in what has come to be known as “Second Empire” style, both in architecture and interior design. This style is marked by the exuberance in forms, details and materials. A sort of neo-barroque style which tended to fill every space with a sense of abundance and excess.

ST Dupont was founded in 1872, right after the Second Empire was over. As a way to celebrate its 140th anniversary the French brand has created a limited edition series inspired by the Second Empire Style which comes in two different versions: Prestige and Premium. The ST Dupont Second Empire Prestige Fountain Pen is finished in brown lacquer with golden trims. Its design is very sophisticated with beautiful decorative elements including 8 hand set rubies on the clip. The clip is made of gold plated bronze and together with the engraved finishes on the cap and barrel resembles the fine furniture used in this period.

Apocalypse - 2012 Limited Edition of 2012 pieces and Prestige Edition of 112 pens
  • The Maya people constitute a diverse range of the Native American people of the Southern Mexico and northern Central America. In Maya culture the end of the World would happen during December 21st 2012 - the end of the 5,125-year cycle of the Mayan World calendar. Many interpretations believe this is the end of the world or of a cosmic cycle. The Maya calendar is a system of calendars used in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, and in many modern communities in highland Guatemala and in Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico. The essentials of the Maya calendar are based upon a system which had been in common use throughout the region, dating back to at least the 5th century BCE. It shares many aspects with calendars employed by other earlier Mesoamerican civilizations, such as the Zapotec and Olmec, and contemporary or later ones such as the Mixtec and Aztec calendars. Although the Mesoamerican calendar did not originate with the Maya, their subsequent extensions and refinements of it were the most sophisticated. Along with those of the Aztecs, the Maya calendars are the best-documented and most completely understood.

To honour this ancient culture, Dupont created an incredible limited edition of only 2012 pieces. This beautiful pen is entirely gold plated and is engraved with the very well known patterns of the Tzolk'in stone. The column represented by the pen is engraved with details inspired by the god Quetzalcoatl, or “feathered serpent.” The side of the pen is dominated by the Tzolkin, or 260-day year in the Mayan’s calendar, with the date December 21st, 2012 engraved in Mayan on the opposite side. The fountain pen is fitted with an 18-carat gold nib.

Paris 1872 - 2012 Limited Edition of 1872 pieces
  • S.T.Dupont launched a new bespoke edition named Paris 1872 as a tribute to the year the House was founded by Simon-Tissot Dupont. The style of the engraving on the Paris 1872 edition is inspired by the Garnier Opera House. Simon-Tissot Dupont was the official photographer of this architectural masterpiece commissioned by Napoleon III, before becoming trunk-maker to the élite of the day. The result is a harmonious blend of timeless classicism with the designs of the Elysée / Ligne 2 range and the decorative, luxurious curves of Second Empire style.

In a tribute to French craftsmanship, items in the Paris 1872 edition are created in collaboration with Master Engraver Frédéric Krill. It took no less than 25 hours to engrave the Elysée fountain pen. Patience and time are the cornerstones of this craft.

Sleeping Mermaid - 2012 Limited Edition of 1111 pieces and and "Tournaire" Edition of 55 pieces
  • S.T. Dupont teamed up with renowned manga artist, Eichiro Oda, to create the breath-taking Sleeping Mermaid to celebrate their 140th anniversary.

A mermaid is a mythological aquatic creature with a female human head, arms, and torso and the tail of a fish. Mermaids are represented in the folklore, literature and popular culture of many countries worldwide. Human-animal hybrids such as the mermaid convery the emergent understanding of our ancient history, that human beings were both one with and different from animals.

Fans of Eichiro Oda's work may recognize similarities in the mermaid depicted in this piece as the one and only, Shirahoshi Hime (Princess Shirahoshi). She is the most popular character during the Fishmen Arc of Oda's One Piece and easily recognized by her size in the story. The Limited Edition is based on the Néo-Classique format.

The Tournaire Edition is based on the Néo-Classique President pen, hand sculpted with a gold finish and accented with sapphires. The shell-shaped base is hand sculpted as well, fashioned from bronze and finished with a gold coloured patina.
